Every year, some home design trends pick up where others end. Although most design trends evolve slightly over many years, you can typically see unique ideas pop up from year to year. 2019 is no different, so let’s take a look at which kitchen design trends have taken hold this year.

Minimalism

A clean and simple appearance is in this year, but it’s showing up in a few new ways. Empty counter space is becoming more common as people look for new ways to hide their appliances when at all possible. Some people are also favoring cabinets that blend into the surroundings more seamlessly. Another big change is in ventilation, as people lose interest in big range hoods that stand out. As younger people begin buying and remodeling their homes, you can expect to see more minimalism, as it is visually appealing on social media.

Splash of Color

Cabinets are no longer limited to white or other neutral colors. This year, people are making their kitchens pop with colored cabinetry. Mint green is a favorite, but you can find a whole spectrum of cabinet colors that work nicely. Even darker colors, which many feared could make the room look too dark, have surged in popularity. Often, these colors are paired with white walls for a polished look.

On the other side, we also have people choosing matte black to complement their white fixtures. Matte black provides a more muted look, rather than the polished and glossy looks of previous years. The softer finish provides a more artistic quality to the room’s design, rather than looking sleek.

Natural Features

Wood and stone is making a big splash in kitchens this year, as more people are looking to use natural materials to add a down-to-earth feeling to their kitchen. This is a great alternative for people who don’t necessarily want more color in their kitchen, but would rather use natural elements to make their room stand apart.

Increased Technology

Every year, new technologies are released that make our lives easier. In modern kitchens, you’ll often find technologically-advanced appliances, such as ovens that can be controlled via a touchscreen tablet. Coffee pots that can be controlled on your phone are also becoming more popular, as are smart fridges that allow you to do many of the things you can do on your phone. Soon enough, it will be common to only have smart appliances in your kitchen.

Kitchen designs may not change too much in terms of room structure, but people still find creative ways to set this room apart. If you’re planning to renovate your home this year, consider utilizing some of these features to create an on-trend kitchen that will never fail to impress.
